Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure all instruments and equipment are processed according to industry standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST. Responsibilities include cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing surgical tools while prioritizing tasks as directed by leadership. Adapt to fluctuating department activity levels and use supplies judiciously.

Quality Assurance: Collaborate with nursing staff to obtain specialized supplies promptly, ensuring uninterrupted patient care. Respond effectively to unexpected changes during procedures and assist in revising preference cards and instrument sets as technology evolves. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

Patient Satisfaction: Work closely with the surgical team to prepare instruments and supplies before cases. Maintain a professional, quiet environment and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues. Support smooth patient flow by adapting to daily schedule changes.

Patient Safety: Follow strict protocols for cleaning and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment. Prepare for surgeries based on individual patient needs and respond to ongoing changes during procedures. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain sterile field integrity by verifying medications and supplies. Report any breaches in sterile technique promptly.

Professional Development: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy and surgical instruments. Share expertise through orientation and cross-training of peers and new staff. Demonstrate leadership and seek opportunities for continued learning and departmental improvement.

Customer Service: Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals. Foster a respectful and collaborative team environment, practicing AIDET principles (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You). Be flexible with assignments and shifts to meet department needs.

Education and Certification: Must hold current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or be a licensed practical nurse (LPN) with appropriate state licensure.

Work Environment: Full-time, first shift position in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest region of the United States.
