Sierra United Health Centers is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Full-Time Physician Assistant to become an integral part of our Surgical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey. This role will focus on providing high-quality medical care, diagnosis, and treatment for patients undergoing surgical procedures, thereby ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. Work Environment

Our Surgical Center provides a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment that emphasizes teamwork and evidence-based practices. As a Physician Assistant, you will work onsite alongside surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in an energetic atmosphere designed to streamline patient flow and enhance surgical outcomes. The center operates during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 5:00 PM shifts, accommodating a 40-hour work week.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, including physical examinations, taking medical histories, and reviewing patient records to ensure optimal surgical readiness.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as EKGs, lab tests, and imaging studies, to evaluate patient conditions accurately prior to procedures.
• Assist in developing customized treatment plans for patients undergoing surgeries, aiming for effective rehabilitation and postoperative recovery.
• Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, managing postoperative care, and monitoring vital signs to ensure patient stability.
• Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, potential risks, recovery expectations, and the importance of following postoperative care instructions.
• Maintain meticulous and up-to-date patient medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to implement pre-and postoperative protocols and ensure seamless communication regarding patient care.
• Engage in continuous professional development, keeping abreast of best practices in surgical care and new methodologies in patient management.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and patient satisfaction within the surgical setting.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program required.
• Current state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant and a passing score on the national certifying exam.
• Experience in surgical settings, with a solid understanding of surgical protocols and practices.
• Diverse knowledge of patient health regulations and standards affecting surgical care.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effectively engaging with patients and the healthcare team.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and ethical medical practices.
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively.
• A DEA number is required for prescribing medications.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience in an urgent care clinic, surgical center, or hospital setting.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, enhancing the efficiency of patient documentation.
