Key Responsibilities

As a Surgical Physician Assistant at Prime Hospital, your day-to-day activities will include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments through detailed history-taking and physical examinations to develop individualized care plans.
• Ordering, interpreting, and acting on diagnostic tests such as lab results and imaging studies, providing timely and informed medical decisions.
• Collaborating with attending physicians and surgical teams to formulate and implement effective treatment plans.
• Assisting in surgical procedures, managing surgical patients preoperatively and postoperatively, and performing in-office procedures including suturing, wound care, and catheter placements.
• Documenting all patient interactions and clinical findings in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, ensuring compliance with best practices in patient documentation.
• Educating patients and their families on disease processes, treatment options, and postoperative care, fostering a supportive and informative environment.
• Engaging in daily rounds and case discussions while participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
• Maintaining active licensure and board certification, engaging in continuing education to stay current in the field.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Qualifications

• A Master’s Degree from a recognized Physician Assistant program.
• A current and valid Physician Assistant license in the State of New York.
• Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• DEA registration with prescriptive authority in New York.
• Strong clinical decision-making skills, particularly in surgical settings and procedures.
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, including familiarity with Epic or similar platforms.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to teamwork.
• Flexibility to adapt to varying shifts, including potential weekend and evening schedules based on patient care needs.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a surgical, hospital, or urgent care setting is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in acute care or surgical procedures will strengthen your application.
• Experience with patient education and advocacy in surgical contexts is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits
