Position Overview

Gracious Health Medical Hospital is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join our esteemed Liver Transplant team in Corpus Christi, Texas. This full-time, onsite position predominantly operates within our Surgical Center and encompasses both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, including essential support in the operating room (OR). In this role, you will participate in a regular 5-day work week, working 8-hour shifts from Monday to Friday, with on-call responsibilities scheduled monthly to ensure continuous patient coverage and support.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients with both acute and chronic health issues, focusing on liver and abdominal transplant care.
• Conduct thorough assessments, including obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations, to establish diagnosis and treatment plans.
• Perform and interpret diagnostic studies, tailoring interventions based on individual patient needs.
• Administer medications following established protocols or under supervision, ensuring adherence to safety standards for controlled substances.
• Coordinate and oversee laboratory tests and procedures, including the collection and ordering of specimens as necessary.
• Facilitate necessary referrals for specialized therapies such as physical or occupational therapy, ensuring a holistic approach to patient recovery.
• Assist the supervising physician in the OR by acting as a first or second assistant in surgical procedures, with tasks ranging from suturing to instrument handling as required.
• Facilitate patient admissions and discharges, completing all relevant medical documentation accurately and efficiently.
• Educate patients and families about pre-operative and post-operative processes, promoting understanding and engagement in their care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing surgical care practices within the department.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies, contributing to a culture of safety and accountability.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Surgical Physician Assistant will be pivotal in providing exceptional care to patients undergoing liver transplantation, as well as those needing abdominal surgical interventions. This role requires a nuanced understanding of the unique healthcare needs of patients from diverse backgrounds, particularly those facing complex health challenges stemming from liver disease. Developing rapport and trust with patients and their families is essential, as you will guide them through challenging medical decisions and recovery processes.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
• Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
• Current state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Experience

• At least one year of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in a surgical or critical care environment.
• Experience in transplant surgery or related specialty is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and collaborative care workflows.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from USD 140,000 to 180,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
