Work Environment

As a Nurse Practitioner in a school, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, school counselors, and other healthcare providers, to address the physical, emotional, and social health needs of students. Key Responsibilities

• Work in conjunction with pediatricians, counselors, and educational staff to develop and implement individualized health care plans for students.
• Conduct thorough assessments by obtaining detailed medical, physical, and psycho-social histories and performing comprehensive health evaluations tailored to student age and background.
• Execute age-appropriate preventive screenings and educational programs aimed at promoting health and wellness among students.
• Formulate differential diagnoses based on assessments and laboratory findings, integrating clinical judgment to inform treatment approaches.
• Prescribe and administer treatments, medications, and therapies as needed, maintaining rigorous standards of practice and ensuring safe administration in alignment with school policies.
• Develop and deliver educational materials and programs that empower students and staff in making informed health decisions.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily focuses on the student population within the school, encompassing a wide range of health issues from routine check-ups and vaccinations to chronic condition management. You will address various health challenges faced by children and adolescents, fostering a safe, trusting relationship that encourages them to take charge of their health. Your contributions will directly influence their physical and emotional well-being, school attendance, and academic performance.

Qualifications

• A Master’s Degree in Nursing with a focus on Nurse Practitioner studies.
• Valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State, with certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
• At least 3 to 4 years of direct clinical experience in a primary care or urgent care setting.
• Proficiency with medical technology including electronic health records (EHR) systems to document care and track patient progress efficiently.
• Strong communication skills coupled with the ability to educate students about health issues and advocate for their needs effectively.
