Bring your expertise in special education to a rewarding role supporting students with severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom. An opportunity is open for a Special Education Teacher with a focus on severe disabilities to start immediately on a contract basis. This position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact at the high school level by delivering individualized learning experiences and shaping the growth of students who require comprehensive instructional support.
Qualifications & Experience
- South Carolina Special Education Teacher certification is required
- Experience teaching students with severe disabilities in a self-contained or structured classroom is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of IEP procedures, legal compliance, and data-driven instruction
- Proficient in modifying curriculum and instructional approaches to address varied student abilities
- Strong skills in collaboration, communication, and building positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Ability to maintain a positive, organized, and safe classroom environment
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized, individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals for students with severe disabilities
- Adapt lesson plans, materials, and instructional strategies to promote student engagement and progress
- Foster independence in academic, behavioral, social, and life-skills domains
- Collect and analyze data to inform instruction and document student growth
- Collaborate closely with fellow educators, therapists, and support staff
- Engage in IEP meetings and contribute expertise for the development and implementation of student plans
- Communicate regularly with families to support student achievement
- Promote a structured classroom culture that encourages respect, safety, and growth
