THE OPPORTUNITY

We are retained by a global software business at the forefront of secure communications to identify a Sales Development Representative based in the Greater Washington DC area. This is a confidential search on behalf of a high-growth technology company with a genuinely differentiated position in its market. This is not a high-volume, transactional SDR role. It is a consultative, commercially led position targeting complex enterprise or public sector organisations across the United States.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a specialist provider of secure communications and collaboration software, enabling organisations to communicate securely across the platforms, networks and security boundaries that standard tools cannot support. Their technology is deployed in mission-critical environments across the public sector, defence, healthcare and large enterprises. Operating in a market defined by security, compliance and reliability, the company has built a strongly differentiated position serving some of the most demanding regulated organisations in the world. The business is financially robust, consistently profitable and growing. It has a substantial international customer base, healthy margins and steady recurring-revenue growth and is actively expanding its US commercial footprint.

THE ROLE

The SDR will build and develop pipeline across a defined territory of large organisations in the US, focused on either the enterprise market or the public sector market. On the enterprise side that means complex accounts across regulated industries. On the public sector side it means government, defence‑adjacent agencies and higher education. We are hiring for one vertical or the other, so a candidate needs strength in one rather than both. You will engage senior stakeholders across IT, security, digital transformation and procurement, developing substantive conversations rather than transactional outreach. You will carry responsibility across the full early sales cycle, working in close partnership with experienced Enterprise Account Executives and marketing leadership. Key responsibilities Develop and execute outbound prospecting strategy across your named target accounts, whether in the enterprise or the public sector market Engage senior decision‑makers through multi‑channel outreach including LinkedIn, email and phone Build a deep understanding of customer environments, challenges and buying dynamics to position solutions consultatively Qualify pipeline and schedule high‑value meetings for Account Executives, with full early‑stage sales cycle ownership Develop expertise in complex procurement, across enterprise buying structures and government contracting framework Collaborate with sales and marketing leadership to refine messaging, territory approach and outreach strategy Maintain rigorous pipeline hygiene and reporting in a modern CRM

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We are open to candidates at varying stages of their sales career. The right individual will show intellectual curiosity, commercial instinct and a clear hunger to build a career in enterprise technology sales. Relevant prior experience is valued, though cultural and behavioural fit matters just as much. Your background can sit in either the enterprise sector or the government and public sector. Strength in one of these is what we are looking for and you do not need experience across both. A demonstrable drive and genuine enjoyment of relationship‑building and complex problem‑solving Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage technical experts and senior executives alike Comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast‑moving, high‑accountability environment Prior experience in sales, business development or customer‑facing roles is advantageous Exposure to CRM tools is beneficial Familiarity with enterprise or government procurement processes would be well regarded Bachelor's degree required
