Work Environment

The successful candidate will work onsite at our modern mental health clinic located within a school in Hempstead. This environment promotes collaboration among a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and educational staff, ensuring holistic care approaches are implemented for our patient population. You will engage daily with students, parents, and teachers to promote mental health awareness and provide therapeutic support.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments to accurately diagnose mental health disorders.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practices tailored to each student’s needs.
• Prescribe and manage appropriate psychotropic medications, monitoring their effectiveness while making necessary dosage adjustments.
• Provide psychotherapeutic services using various therapeutic techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT).
• Collaborate with other mental health professionals and educators to coordinate patient care, ensuring multidisciplinary approaches to treatment.
• Educate students and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and effective self-care strategies.
• Monitor and document patient progress meticulously, tracking responses to medication and treatment outcomes.
• Conduct regular follow-up appointments to assess and adjust treatment plans based on patient feedback and observed changes in symptoms.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision efforts to promote professional growth and enhance treatment delivery.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on children and adolescents within a school setting who may be facing mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral disorders. By working closely with students, their families, and school personnel, you will help create a supportive environment that fosters and promotes mental wellness for young individuals.

Qualifications

• A valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner License in New York State.
• Successful completion of a Master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from an accredited institution.
• National board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
• Experience working with children and adolescents in a mental health setting is preferred.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Strong commitment to patient-centered care and collaborative practice.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience working in schools or with educational staff.
• Knowledge of school-based mental health services, including crisis intervention protocols.
• Familiarity with local resources and support services available for families.

Compensation and Benefits
