Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments to accurately diagnose mental health disorders in children and adolescents.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each student, utilizing evidence-based practices to ensure effective outcomes.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, regularly monitoring patient responses and making dosage adjustments as necessary to optimize therapeutic benefits.
• Provide psychotherapy and counseling services, employing various therapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) tailored to a younger demographic.
• Collaborate with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to coordinate patient care and promote holistic treatment strategies.
• Educate students and families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and the importance of ongoing self-care and wellness practices.
• Regularly document patient progress, including medication responses, therapeutic outcomes, and symptom changes, to guide ongoing treatment decisions.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to enhance treatment approaches and share insights with colleagues.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role focuses on the mental health needs of children and adolescents within the school system. You will work with a diverse population, addressing conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, and trauma-related issues. Your interventions will not only aim to treat existing conditions but also to educate and empower students through proactive mental health education and coping strategies.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BN) and a graduate degree in psychiatric mental health nursing.
• Current and valid Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in the state of Florida.
• Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) through a nationally recognized certifying body.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with young patients and their families.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in school settings or with pediatric populations is highly desirable.
• A background in providing evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, particularly those effective for younger populations.
• Familiarity with state mental health regulations and school-based mental health programs.

Compensation and Benefits
