Director, Learning & Development

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Learning & Development based in the United States.

This fully remote leadership role will shape and scale enterprise-wide learning and development across a complex, rapidly evolving healthcare environment. You will define the learning strategy, modernize the learning ecosystem, and connect workforce development to measurable business outcomes. The role spans onboarding, clinical and operational training, leadership development, instructional design, learning technology, and field enablement. You will lead a multidisciplinary, geographically distributed team while partnering closely with operations, clinical leadership, technology, talent, and other stakeholders. A major focus will be on leveraging analytics, automation, AI-enabled tools, and modern instructional design to create scalable learning experiences. The position offers the opportunity to influence workforce capability, employee development, operational performance, and long-term organizational growth. Success will require a strategic leader who can translate business priorities into practical, measurable, and engaging learning solutions. \n

Accountabilities

Develop and execute an enterprise-wide learning and development strategy aligned with organizational growth, operational objectives, workforce capability, and customer or patient experience goals.

Lead the transformation and modernization of learning through digital platforms, asynchronous learning, adaptive technologies, simulations, microlearning, AI-enabled tools, and contemporary instructional design practices.

Oversee the learning technology ecosystem, including LMS platforms, content-authoring tools, learning analytics, digital adoption solutions, and emerging AI-enabled learning technologies.

Establish learning governance, standards, KPIs, measurement frameworks, and effectiveness practices that connect learning activity to outcomes such as productivity, retention, quality, compliance, internal mobility, and leadership effectiveness.

Design and oversee scalable enterprise onboarding programs, role-based learning journeys, certification programs, and competency-based development initiatives for remote, field, clinical, operational, leadership, and support populations.

Lead leadership development, succession planning, talent acceleration, and workforce capability initiatives that strengthen organizational depth and internal mobility.

Partner with clinical and operational leaders to ensure learning programs support quality, safety, compliance, performance, and service objectives.

Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including generative AI, skills intelligence, performance-support tools, and digital learning solutions, while establishing appropriate governance and responsible-use practices.

Use learning and workforce analytics to identify development gaps, evaluate program effectiveness, inform workforce planning, and communicate actionable insights to executive leadership.

Lead a multidisciplinary learning organization spanning clinical learning, learning solutions, provider learning, EMR training, learning technology, instructional design, school programs, and market training.

Develop managers and team members through coaching, performance management, professional development, clear accountability, and strong operational practices.

Manage the annual learning and development budget, vendor relationships, consultants, contracts, and technology investments while evaluating utilization, effectiveness, and return on investment.

Collaborate with Technology, Compliance, Security, Operations, Talent, and other business functions to ensure learning solutions are scalable, secure, measurable, and aligned with organizational priorities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Learning & Development, Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Business, Instructional Design, Nursing, Clinical Sciences, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

8+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, Organizational Development, workforce enablement, or a related field.

5+ years of experience leading managers and large, geographically distributed teams.

Demonstrated success developing and executing enterprise-wide learning strategies and leading large-scale learning transformation, workforce capability, or organizational change initiatives.

Strong expertise in learning technology, LMS administration, learning analytics, digital learning platforms, instructional design, adult learning theory, and performance consulting.

Experience with enterprise LMS solutions such as Workday Learning, Cornerstone, SuccessFactors, Docebo, or comparable platforms.

Proven ability to connect learning strategies and investments to business performance, workforce capability, and measurable organizational outcomes.

Strong executive presence, strategic thinking, business acumen, and the ability to influence senior leaders and build alignment across functions.

Experience managing significant learning budgets, external vendors, consultants, technology investments, and contracts, with strong financial and ROI awareness.

Demonstrated experience with leadership development, succession planning, talent acceleration, career development, and skills-based learning frameworks.

Knowledge of organizational change management principles and strategies for driving adoption across large organizations.

Familiarity with generative AI applications in learning design, content development, coaching, knowledge management, and performance support, including the ability to establish responsible-use and effectiveness practices.

Healthcare, urgent care, ambulatory care, hospital, retail healthcare, or another highly regulated industry background is preferred.

Experience supporting clinical and operational workforce development and/or EMR training programs is preferred.

Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and certifications such as ATD, CPTD, SHRM, Prosci, or similar credentials are preferred.

Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, judgment, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt priorities and direction in a dynamic environment.

Benefits

Base salary range of

$153,900–$211,647 per year

, with actual compensation dependent on experience, skills, education, geographic location, and other applicable factors.
