Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough physical examinations and health assessments of students, identifying acute and chronic health issues.
• Collaborate closely with pediatricians and other healthcare providers to develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for students.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as laboratory exams and radiological studies in a school-based context.
• Prescribe medications and therapies based on clinical evaluations, ensuring adherence to school health regulations and policies.
• Educate students and their families on health issues, preventive care, and the importance of maintaining wellness, including discussions on nutrition, exercise, and mental health.
• Participate in school health committees, contributing to policy development, and promoting health initiatives that enhance the educational experience.
• Maintain meticulous records in our electronic medical records (EMR) system, ensuring compliance with both educational and healthcare regulations.
• Engage in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing the health services provided to our student population.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role is centered around serving the student population within local schools. You will be responsible for addressing a broad range of health issues that adolescents face today, including chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes, as well as acute illnesses and injury treatments. Understanding the unique challenges faced by children in an urban environment like the Bronx is essential to providing effective care that promotes better health outcomes.

Qualifications

• A current certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New York.
• Active state nursing license.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 4 years of clinical experience, with demonstrated expertise in pediatric or adolescent health preferred.
