Work Environment

This position primarily operates in a remote setting, collaborating with on-site correctional staff to ensure effective communication and access to services for clients. Although the work is conducted remotely, the counselor will engage regularly with colleagues, participating in virtual meetings, case discussions, and treatment planning sessions. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health evaluations and crisis interventions for incarcerated individuals, ensuring timely access to necessary care.
• Provide individualized assessments and create tailored treatment plans that address the unique psychological needs of each patient.
• Document all clinical encounters and complete required statistical reports in compliance with departmental guidelines.
• Coordinate with the Department of Correction to facilitate proper housing and treatment dispositions for patients.
• Lead group therapy sessions for individuals experiencing mental health crises in designated observation units.
• Engage in weekly clinical supervision sessions with a licensed Clinical Supervisor for ongoing professional development.
• Participate in mental health and medical rounds, contributing clinical insights and updates on patient progress.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in case conferences to devise comprehensive treatment plans for patients.
• May conduct psychological testing as needed, ensuring accurate assessments for treatment adjustments.
• Supervise social work interns or student volunteers, providing mentorship and guidance in their clinical practice.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Unit Chief and Clinical Supervisor to support the department’s mission.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The primary focus of this role is on individuals who are incarcerated and may present a variety of mental health challenges, including behavioral issues, substance use histories, and severe mental illnesses. The counselor will work collaboratively with patients who often experience complex psychological conditions needing specialized interventions, providing them the support and guidance necessary for recovery and reintegration.

Qualifications

• A valid mental health counseling license such as LICSW, LMHC, or LMFT for the state of Washington.
• A Master's degree or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of two years of full-time, direct patient care experience in a behavioral health setting post-licensure.
• Five years of combined experience, including three additional years of post-licensure experience.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in correctional health services and those adept at dealing with severe mental illness, substance use issues, and behavioral problems will be prioritized. Applicants possessing a background in inpatient settings or related environments will be notably favored, as this experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of working with incarcerated individuals.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position ranges from USD 115,000 to USD 130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
