Full-Time Nurse Practitioner for Mental Health Services in Educational Settings

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic team at Primary Mental Healthcare located in Oceanside, New York. Work Environment

This role is situated directly within an educational facility, specifically designed to provide an engaging environment conducive to learning and growth. You will work from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the possibility of extended evening hours up to 8:00 p.m. on occasion, as well as community outreach on weekends. This position requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to the varying needs of students and their families, making it a challenging yet rewarding experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough health assessments and screenings for students and their families to identify various mental health concerns and needs.
• Formulate diagnoses and develop individualized care plans that address acute and chronic mental health issues, emphasizing preventive care and health promotion.
• Collaborate with educational staff, community organizations, and healthcare providers to create and implement impactful health education initiatives for the school community.
• Provide culturally sensitive care, ensuring that every child’s unique background and needs are respected, while actively advocating for their rights to appropriate healthcare services.
• Coordinate referrals to specialized services and facilitate timely follow-up care to guarantee continuity in the treatment of patients.
• Maintain detailed, accurate electronic health records that comply with regulatory standards, ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information.
• Participate in health fairs and community outreach programs aimed at promoting mental health awareness amongst students and their families.
• Stay informed of current community health trends and best practices, continually applying evidence-based approaches to care delivery.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will include children and adolescents attending the school, along with their families, many of whom may face social and economic barriers to accessing quality healthcare. You will be a crucial resource in supporting students dealing with anxiety, depression, attention disorders, and other mental health challenges, fostering resilience and positive coping strategies.

Qualifications

• Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner and an active state nursing license.
• A Bachelor’s degree is required, while a Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capability to engage effectively with a diverse patient population.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience, particularly in community health or public health settings dealing with mental health issues.
• A demonstrated commitment to social justice, health equity, and advocacy for marginalized communities.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range between USD 180,000 and 200,000 annually, adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
