Work Environment

This role is based onsite at a school, allowing the Nurse Practitioner to engage directly with students and staff, providing pain management solutions tailored to a younger population. You will work alongside teachers, school counselors, and healthcare providers to create an integrated approach to managing chronic pain within the school community.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough health assessments, obtaining detailed health histories and performing comprehensive physical examinations to establish patient pain profiles.
• Develop and implement both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment plans for patients suffering from chronic and acute pain, ensuring strategies are tailored to individual needs.
• Educate patients and families about care plans, set achievable goals for pain management, and inform them of medication side effects and the importance of adherence to prescribed therapies.
• Manage care for patients experiencing chronic pain, ensuring that treatment plans align with evidence-based practices and the latest pain management guidelines.
• Work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss treatment strategies and adjust plans as necessary for optimal patient outcomes.
• Utilize strong clinical assessment skills to accurately diagnose and evaluate patients with complex pain disorders, employing different diagnostic tests to identify pain sources.
• Monitor and prescribe appropriate medications while adhering to safe prescribing practices, including checking the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) to ensure patient safety.
• Execute procedures such as nerve blocks and spinal injections, providing hands-on care where necessary.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Pain Management Nurse Practitioner will primarily serve children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing various pain conditions, either acute or chronic. Understanding the unique challenges faced by this population, the NP will advocate for their needs while respecting their developmental stage and belief systems. Special focus will be placed on creating supportive and trusting relationships to foster open communication about pain and treatment efficacy.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
• Active and valid New York State Nurse Practitioner license.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pain management or related fields.
• Demonstrated knowledge of pain disorders, treatment modalities, and current best practices in care.
• Expertise in safe medication prescribing practices and the management of therapeutic regimens.
• Experience in performing diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to pain management.

Preferred Experience

• Prior work experience in a pediatric or educational setting is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with multidisciplinary treatment approaches in pain management.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and telehealth technologies.

Compensation and Benefits

• The annual salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $160,000 , commensurate with experience and credentials.
